Amitabh Bachchan’s
film itinerary is looking pretty full, and it’s time for fans to
rejoice as the actor will be making his Hollywood debut with Baz
Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. The legendary actor has done the film as
without remuneration!
That’s quite sweet of Brand Amitabh- who filmmakers crave to work with. “The role is
small, hardly of a minute. Baz was touring India couple of years ago,
going all around the country, he dropped in at my office with a friend
who did some painting work for me. We just had a casual conversation and
he left,” says Big B who plays the role of Meyer Wolfsheim,
“Year-and-a-half ago he called me and said he has a role for me which he
said was not worthy and said if I will do it. I readily agreed. As a
gesture it is not remunerative. I have not charged anything. I did it
just for a gesture.”
The 69-year old shares screen space with
Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio for the film in the little slice of a
scene that we see him on screen. About his experience of working with a
Hollywood unit, Amitabh says, “My experience with Baz, Leonardo
DiCaprio, Tobey and Carey was wonderful. Many films have been made on
this. It is the third edition. Huge amount of detailing, research has
been done. Their whole system of working is so organised and it is a
great pleasure to be working with them.”
About his other projects,
Amitabh is looking forward to the release of the movie ‘Shoe-bite’,
which has landed into legal trouble with Fox Studios. Talking about the
delay in the release of this film, Bachchan elaborates, “Shoebite' was
the idea that Percept (Percept Picture Company) first worked on,
then UTV came into the picture and even Shoojit Sircar came on board.
Then UTV said they have got some legal problem with the 20th Century
Fox as they said this property belongs to them. So we had to tell them
that we are through with the shooting. Now this matter is resting with
UTV. I don't know what the outcome is. From our side the work is over.
Hope that the film gets released soon.” At the same time, he had
previously been approached by an enthusiastic Mira Nair for her film
adaptation of the 2003 Gregory David Roberts book on the Mumbai drug
mafia- Shantaram. However, the film has been regretfully shelved.
Well, with movies and the next season of Kaun Banega Crorepati lined up, looks like Amitabh Bachchan’s here to show who’s boss!
