Sanjay Dutt extends help to Uttarakhand survivors

You can confine a body, not an idea. Or in Sanjay Dutt’s case, an endeavour. A jail term is Yerewada Central Station, Pune did not prevent the actor from reaching out to those who need help in the Uttarakhand devastation. The ‘Munnabhai’ star is said to have written to his wife Maanyata to devote the expenditure of Policegiri’s promotion to organise a charity event to collect relief aid for the flood survivors.

It is a lofty gesture, no doubt, and one that met with appreciation from not only Mrs. Sanjay Dutt but also his upcoming film Policegiri’s producer Rahul Aggarwal. According to a source, he is known to have said, "It's very touching that Sanjay actually decided to collect funds for these victims rather than promoting the movie in Dubai."

The gesture, no doubt, could be a promotional stunt but Sanjay’s altruistic streak was also evident during the 2004 tsunami catastrophe in India. Because the actor cannot attend the film’s preview, Policegiri makers have requested the DG of Yerewada prison to organise a special screening for all the inmates.

Policegiri is due for release on July 5, 2013. It is a cop drama featuring Prachi Desai and Prakash Raj as well.
