Lavani as an item number is soon catching the fancy of many in Bollywood. After Katrina Kaif's Chikni Chameli and Vidya's Malaa Jaau de, it's time for Rani Mukherji to light up the screen with some Marathi folk moves.
With choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant,
who has choreographed item songs like Kajra Re, the song will feature
in the movie Aiyya, in which Rani has as many as three item songs. "Rani
does three item numbers in her dream in 'Aiyya'. In this film, the girl
has this habit of dreaming. One of her item numbers is a lavani song,
again in her dream," says Sachin Kundalkar, director of the film.We
aren't used to seeing the actress in this avataar, but she hasn't failed
to surprise us with the variety of characters and roles she's played in
the past 15 years of being on screen.
About
the song, he adds, "She (Rani) was quite good with her lavani dance.
She shared a great equation with Vaibhavi Merchant. She did rehearsals
on the sets. So it's a rapid, classical, sensuous lavani song."
Her
character in Aiyya is of a Maharashtrian girl who falls for a man
because of how he smells. The south Indian superstar Prithvi Raj has
been cast opposite her, and the film finished its final edit on July 15.
Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18 are the co-producers of Aiyya and Kundalkar says Kashyap really liked the final cut.
We can't help but look forward to the film!
