Gangs of Wasseypur 2 - Movie review!

gangs of wasseypur 2 movie review, anurag kashyap, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Faisal khan, huma qureshi, tigmanshu dhulia, richa chadha, gangs of wasseypur songs

Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 takes up where the first one left off. It is just as rustic, isme utna hi action hai, thoda zyaada drama hai, bahut saara revenge hai par thankfully the raunchy scenes have been toned down and don't make you cringe.

Wasseypur is no more the town that was once consumed by the raging war between Sardar Khan and Ramadhir Singh. The new generation of lobbyists turn into gangs overnight. Elections, politics, and the miracle of the internet, the town's unusually slimy crowd got murkier. At the centre of this madness is the most powerful guy in town- Faisal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). And like his father, his own ambition is vendetta- against Ramadhir Singh.

Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 is a fitting conclusion to this story of vengeance, which by now, not just the family but also this town has come to inherit.

The story takes off where Sardar Khan is killed and goes on to depict the lives of his sons and the twists and turns that are a every day occurence in their lives. There is also a slew of new characters like Shamshad Alam, Definite, Perpendicular and Tangent who add novelty to the film. The icing on the cake is that the town of Wasseypur has got even more notorious, there is plenty of vengance, illegal profiteering, corrupt government officials, election rigging, hooliganism, violence, blood and gore with everyone wanting to be the next don.
GOW – Part 2 is a fitting finale to the lives and times of Sardar Khan and his family. The first half does get a bit tedious but the film comes up to speed in the second half. The narrative is smooth and seamless. The movie leaves you drained and exhausted but only because you are so immersed in the proceedings that you feel you are a part of them. This movie is like reading a fantastic book that you don't want to put down till you have finished it, because you keep wanting to know what will happen next.

The film with its finely etched characters, attention to detail, clarity in each and every sequence keeps you gripped till the end credits roll and even after that you go home thinking about the film.

The standard was set high by Gangs of Wasseypur 1, but part 2 more than does justice to its precedor. But be warned - it is not cinema for those who enjoy just mindless, leave-your-brain-at-home kind of cinema. If you are a fan of offbeat, quirky, Quintin Tarantino type of movies, this one is definitely for you.

Stellar performances by the entire star-cast including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi deserve a standing ovation. There is not a single performer who doesn't do justice to his or her role, no matter how big or small. Kudos to the casting director!

Direction is but of course flawless - 'Brilliant' is the word that comes to mind when you say Anurag Kashyap and indeed he has been successful in making his dream come true. It has a crackling, earthy soundtrack by Sneha Khanwalkar which just blends in smoothly, but it may not be to everyone's liking.

GOW 2 is cinematically sound. It's picture-perfect and that is why one hopes that Anurag Kashyap doesn't make a part 3, because that may just become repititive and take away from the freshness of the Wasseypur series.

Go, get your dose of healthy cinema with this 4 star movie.
