Irrfan Khan has played varied roles in different movies.
With all his roles he has created an appealing image for himself. He was last
seen playing the role of a legendary sportsman-turned-dacoit in Tigmanshu
Dhulia’s Paan Singh Tomar. And now, Irrfan is ready to play a different
character in his next film which will be a romantic comedy.
“It’s a rustic love story set against the backdrop of Uttar
Pradesh; basically, it’s in the Ishqiya (2010) space,” says the untitled
film’s producer, Anjum Rizvi. Irrfan had been signed for the film before the actor
began shooting for Paan Singh Tomar.
He will be seen playing the part of a mild-mannered brass
band master who performs at wedding ceremonies and uses his charm to woo the
women in attendance.
The movie will be directed by Ahista Ahista (2006)
director Shivam Nair and will star Irrfan Khan and Aditi Rao Hydari, who was
last seen in London Paris New York (2012). Incidentally, both actors
were part of Sudhir Mishra’s Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011), but they didn’t
share any scenes.
“We were looking for a young face to play the part of a
street-smart girl and Aditi suits the character perfectly,” says Shivam who,
while writing the script of the film, only had Irrfan in mind for the role. “He
is a member of this Saraswati Brass band in Lucknow. People will see him in a
light role in a genre like this after a while.” This will however not be
Irrfan’s first light-hearted role. He has earlier played light-hearted roles in
Dil Kabaddi (2008) and Thank You (2011).
Producer Anjum, who is currently also producing another film
called John Day, starring actors Randeep Hooda and Naseeruddin Shah,
plans to take Irrfan’s untitled film on the floors by June this year.
